Default efficiency reflects a typical compact electric SUV.
Where to find your EV's efficiency figure
Efficiency (kWh per 100 km) is usually listed in the manufacturer's specification sheet, sometimes as a range depending on driving mode. Real-world efficiency is affected by hill driving, cabin AC use, and cold weather, all of which increase energy consumption — so treat the manufacturer figure as a best-case scenario.
Home charging vs public charging cost
This calculator assumes charging at a flat per-kWh electricity rate, which is typical for home charging. Public DC fast charging is usually billed at a different, often higher, rate — if you rely mainly on public charging, adjust the rate field accordingly for a more accurate estimate.
Frequently asked questions
What electricity rate should I use?+
Use your household's per-unit (kWh) electricity rate from your utility bill. If you charge on a time-of-use tariff, an average rate is a reasonable approximation.
Does this include public fast-charging costs?+
The default assumes home charging at a flat rate. If you frequently use public DC fast chargers, which are usually billed differently, adjust the electricity rate field to reflect that cost instead.
